Are You Removing ALL of your Makeup?

Are You Removing ALL of your Makeup

If you love and wear makeup like I do, then you the important of removing all traces of makeup at the end of the day.  I know sometimes we are too tired or simply being lazy to remove our makeup before bed but to prevent our skin from becoming congested which can lead to extra breakouts, clogged pores and a dull complexion; then we must give that extra TLC to our skin.

Not only should we remove our makeup at the end of the day, but we should ensure we are removing it properly as well. You know those days when you wash your face but residue from your mascara still remains under your eyes? Or how about when you wake up in the morning and find traces of foundation on your pillow? Then you’re most likely not removing all your makeup. Just because your face looks and feels clean (I can testify to that), doesn’t mean it actually it is.  Here are some of my staples for ensuring I am removing all of my makeup!

Step 1: Eye Makeup Remover

Before washing my face, I like to press and hold a makeup-removing wipe (or a cotton pad soaked in my favorite remover) on the eye area and allow the liquid to break down the layers of liner and mascara before rubbing away. The skin around your eyes is particularly thin, so it’s important to be gentle. Don’t rub too hard when removing makeup. I love using the NIP+FAB Kale Fix Make-Up Remover Pads* or Bioderma Sensibio Cleansing Milk*. Both are wonderful for removing eye makeup and gently cleanses and softens the skin with an ultra-moisturizing formula.

Step 2: Cleansing Oil

I’m a huge fan of cleansing oils, particularly Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil. It gently melts away all makeup that sits on the surface of my skin. Massage the cleansing oil into your face, then dampen to create a mild foam before rinsing off.

Step 3: Cleansing Device / Face Cleanser

Pairing a cleansing device with your go-to face wash gives you a necessary deep clean. Just make sure to get the areas you often forget about like the hairline, eyebrows and under the jawline. You don’t have to get anything expensive, just as long as it is effective. I love this Cleaning Me Softly Facial Cleansing Brush from Sephora. It is effective and gentle, plus it’s affordable if you don’t want to spend the money on a Clarisonic! A few of my favorite cleansers that really cleans the skin without that drying effect are Laneige Deep Pore Cleansing Foam, Bioderma Sebium Cleansing Foaming Gel* and Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder.

Step 4: Micellar Water

Now, my final step is also one of my favorite part. This last step ensures I have now removed every trace of residue. I soak a cotton pad with micellar water and rub it across my entire face – you’ll be surprised how much dirt and makeup is left on the cotton. I am a huge fan of Bioderma Make-up Removing Micelle Solution* and Caudalie Cleansing Water because they give me results without the dryness, redness, or filmy feeling some removers leave behind.

And that’s it ladies and gents!!!
