Curls and Confidence Subscription Box Review

Hi Beauties,

I hope you all had an amazing Holiday weekend with family, friends and loved ones. I hope you ate and laugh lots and I hope you enjoy the rest of this Holiday season. I want to take this time to say thank you for all your love and support on my blog and Instagram and for all the lovely comments you leave every day; it is so appreciated!! It has been a wonderful year and I feel very blessed to have connected with you all through our mutual love of beauty and fashion. I can’t believe there’s only a few days left until 2017…I’m truly thankful for each and every one of you and feel so lucky to get to share what I love with you all. ~Live ~ Laugh ~ Love

Okay, let’s get into the blog post below:

Time to talk about subscription boxes, but not your typical beauty boxes. If you’re connected to any social media website, then you’ve heard of subscription boxes but this is all about hair; great haircare products!

Curls & Confidence is a new Canadian monthly subscription box that was launched in August of this year and is filled with deluxe size samples of haircare products that are thoughtfully curated and selected for Natural and Curly hair women. The samples range from Shampoos, Conditioners, Leave-in treatments and much more. Curls & Confidence are a healthy hair subscription box with one simple objective; to let you try great hair products!  They want to help you try hair products so you can buy the full-size with confidence. Each month they work with some of the newest and purest natural hair brands in the market and carefully handpick the best hair products that promote natural healthy hair growth. Curls and Confidence want women to embrace their natural beauty confidently.

I was kindly gifted this month’s box (Gift of Healthy Hair) by Christina of Curls & Confidence. The box is super cute. Since this was my first box, they included a very nice personalized card as well as a special chocolate holiday treat. The December’s Healthy Hair box features all natural Toronto based natural hair products.

Curls and Confidence Subscription Box Review

Once you open the box, it tells you what items come in the box. Here are the contents that came in the December box:

London Ivy Black Soap: This is a moisturizing body wash and shampoo made with natural and organic ingredients including pure African black soap, coconut oil, plantain and peppermint.

Recognized for its natural properties, Liquid Black Soap has been known to help to soothe acne, rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis. I didn’t find that this lather up at all and it has too much of a watery consistency for my liking. Though I wasn’t a fan of this, it did an okay job of cleansing my hair although it didn’t feel like I was getting that squeaky clean feel that I like. Although my hair did not feel stripped, I wouldn’t categorize this as a moisturizing shampoo. I also tried it as a body wash but it wasn’t my favorite that way either.

London Ivy Babassu Honey: This is a Moisture rich deep conditioner that is made with natural and organic ingredients including babassu oil, honey and broccoli seed oil.

This deep conditioner is not as thick or hydrating as I like my deep conditioners to be because of my dry strands. It had a runny consistency. That being said, it is a good conditioner that didn’t have a lot of slip to it. It provides a good amount of moisture and nutrients to my hair and the Brazilian Babassu oil will penetrate your strands to moisturize and repair dry and damaged hair; while Honey, Avocado Oil, Peppermint and Broccoli Seed Oil will restore elasticity, add shine and provide balanced moisture. I had no problems finger detangling after using this but I didn’t like the peppermint in it as I’m just not a fan of peppermint (except in candies and gums of course ?). It is recommended that you leave this in for 10-30 minutes.

London Ivy Coconut Aloe: This is an intense moisture replenishing spritz and made with natural and organic ingredients including coconut water, aloe vera, apricot oil and peppermint. This is free of Paraben, Mineral Oil, Silicone and Sulfates.

This coconut aloe spritz is a great way to refresh your strands and face throughout the day. Perfect for those who experience excessive dryness as it will leave both hair and skin soft. I like this; it’s just a great refresher for the face or hair.

Kym Nylz 100% Pure All Natural Castor Oil: This is ideal for hair growth and great to use as a hot oil treatment for additional moisture. Castor Oil is known to be really great as a hair and scalp treatment especially for natural hair. It can stimulates hair growth by getting deep into its follicles and improves scalp health, repair damaged hair, supports hair growth, whilst adding volume and shine.

LocSuria Detangling Leave-in Conditioner: Locsuria delivers a healthy hair care system designed to promote hair growth and moisture. Made with coconut oil, vegan and all natural.

I’ve come to realized that my curly hair doesn’t respond well to certain products that contains coconut oil, but other times some of these products will also work really great. Enriched with Shea Butter and Aloe Vera, Locsuria Leave-In Detangling Conditioner works to protect your Natural Curls.  It leaves hair amazingly soft, tangle-free, frizz-free and easy to manage. This conditioning creamy formulation helps to replenish moisture and impart sheen. This one was a winner for me and I’ve really been enjoying it for my curls. It is 98% plant-based and are chemical-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free and without fillers.

LocSuria Smooth + Shine Edge Control: This is a firm hold smoothing gel formulated to smooth and sleek edges, ponytails and braid styles.  This non-greasy, non-flaky formula is ideal for natural and relaxed hairstyles. Whenever I comb my hair in a ponytail, I apply a small amount for hold and shine finish and it works amazing! It contains no mineral oil or petroleum.

Overall, I was happy with the Curls & Confidence box. The health of my curly hair is extremely important to me so discovering new products that could help it grow, stay strong and most importantly ‘perfectly curled and soft’ is always a priority. I love that there’s a great variety of products and great value for all you get. I must also say I was very impressed with many of the items in this month’s box and it’s such a great opportunity to try different products and see what works for my hair without going out and spending hundreds of dollars. This is also a great way to find something that works for your hair especially if you are on a journey of transitioning to natural hair or you’re just tired of your old products and want to try something new!
