Milk Makeup recently release a new addition to their best-selling Blur Stick, Luminous Blur Stick. This primer is intended to give the effect of a “luminous matte skin.”
This is meant to provide both mattifying and luminizing properties, and is basically the best of both worlds. Apparently this is very similar to the original version. This new Blur Stick has a luminous matte finish with a golden pearl-infused formula to leave you with a glow, while blurring microspheres absorb oil and mattify. The blurring microsphere technology is supposed to minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines so that makeup lays down better and wears longer. This silicone-free and oil-free formula goes on clear to create a golden, pearl-infused glow on all skin tones, without clogging pores.
MY THOUGHTS: This has a creamy texture and goes on very smooth. It’s easy to blend and has a gold glittery tone to it, but does indeed have a matte finish. I did notice a slight “glow” from the stick. Milk advises that you apply it after moisturizing, as you would any primer, for a flawless finish under foundation, or let the blurring effect convince you to forgo foundation. It did even out my skintone but in terms of a blurring effect, I feel like it didn’t really blur out my pores completely. I don’t have a huge pore problem and it’s usually not a concern for me but the little I do have, I could still see some of them peeking through after using this blur stick. I also couldn’t see a huge difference with makeup over it. I find that this is more noticeable on bare skin but not so much under makeup. I think this is nice to use when I’m just running out the house with no makeup as it did smooth over my complexion and give me a little bit of a healthy-looking glow. Because this is a bit drying, I suggest prepping your skin very well with moisturizer (especially if you have dry skin) since this is supposed to mattify the skin. I didn’t have any problems with it clinging to dry patches and it did sit well under makeup. I think that I will have better luck with this product in the warmer seasons. I think it depends on what you’re looking for whether or not you’ll like this product. It smells citrusy and really refreshing.
You can find the Luminous Blur Stick primer now for CAD $43 / US $36 (1 oz) at sephora.com.
