SHEA MOISTURE COCONUT & HIBISCUS HAIRCARE COLLECTION

I love trying new hair care products but I always go back to what works for my curls. Shea Moisture is one of those brands that just works for me — and whether I’m using it in my hair or my girls’ hair, it has always been a go-to. As a curly girl, the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Collection (Coconut & Hibiscus Moisturize & Define) was the one that initially caught my attention and actually the only line from the brand that I’ve used in my hair and my girls’ hair (ages 9 & 6). I was sent 4 products from the collection, although I already had two of them in my stash.  Blended with organic Shea Butter, these curl enhancing formulas instantly soften and detangle, while infusing curls with intense moisture and shine-enhancing nutrients.

The scent of this collection is heavenly; it just smells incredible. The packaging is nothing special in my opinion but each collection is colour coded.

Curl & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner (CAD $11.96)

I am very weary of shampoos in my hair as they can strip the moisture from your hair, especially curly hair so I don’t tend to use a lot of shampoos. I’ve said this many times before on my blog. When I want to clarify my hair I will use a shampoo but again, it is very rare as I mostly co-wash my curls. This line’s shampoo and conditioner moisturizes and takes care of my hair without stripping it as all the products are free of the nasties like Sulfates, Parabens, Phthaltes, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil, Paraffin and DEA. This formula lathers well, moisturizes, strengthens, cleans the scalp well and leaves the hair feeling healthy. I love that this shampoo doesn’t tangle up my hair like a lot of shampoos normally would and it works beautiful for my girls’ hair which has a slightly kinkier texture than my hair. The conditioner is actually a little too lightweight for me personally and even my girls’ hair; however it works great at detangling and doesn’t weigh the hair down at all. I lather this all over and can be confident that it won’t make my hair flat or greasy – and then just use a thicker and more concentrated conditioner on my ends if needed.

Curl & Style Milk (CAD $13.96)

I love this Style milk. Aside from Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Hibiscus Flower Extract, this product contains, Silk Proteins, Neem Oil, Carrot Oil, Honeysuckle and Vitamin E. It smells wonderful too. I usually don’t use a lot of milky products in my hair but this one works really well for me. I don’t like milky products as my hair can’t take much product at all but the texture of this is light and doesn’t weigh my hair down even though I’m known to be really heavy-handed at times. I prefer using this with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie though and it works well at keeping my hair soft and moisturized.

Curl Enhancing Smoothie (CAD $13.96)

This smoothie moisturizes and creates definition while adding some shine to the hair. You can use it on dry or damp hair but I prefer using it on damp hair because it gives more definition to my curls. What I like about it is that it defines my curls but doesn’t leave my hair crunchy which I don’t like, I prefer my curls to be bouncy and soft and the smell, the smell is amazing.

All in all, I love all this collection and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a more natural hair care line.

The Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Haircare Collection is available at Walmart Canada.

Have you tried anything by Shea Moisture? Let me know if there’s a product out there that I need to try for my curls.
