With the tail-end of winter in sight, we can finally start looking forward to spring – and planning our wardrobes for the new season. And it promises to be a fun one, with all the colours, prints, and accessories you could wish for. Have fun playing dress-up as you investigate these five fashion considerations to make for spring.
- Add some fun prints
One print in particular was all over the catwalks for spring/summer 2019 – leopard print. This animal-themed classic shows no signs of disappearing, so now’s the time to try the trend (if you haven’t already). Designers like Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana favoured head-to-toe ensembles, but it’s easy to dress up plain clothing with a bag or a pair of shoes if you’d prefer a more subtle look. Or why not make one signature piece the main focus of your outfit? There are lots of leopard print skirts on the high street right now.
- Don’t be afraid of colour
The sun will (hopefully!) come out and our clothing will brighten up accordingly. For the brave amongst you, there’ll be lots of neon shades – think highlighter-pen hues like shocking pink and green.
For something slightly calmer, look for shades of camel or lavender, or experiment with colour clashes. Red and pink is a favourite for this season.
- Make your accessories big and bold
Whether you’re jazzing up your outfit with jewellery, hair clips, or a statement bag, there’s just one rule when it comes to spring accessories: they need to be outrageous. Bows were everywhere, and are an easy way to add some interest to your usual hairstyle.
- Look for sharp tailoring
Gone are the days when only men could wear a suit. Tailored pieces like oversized blazers and wide-leg pants were popular sights on the S/S19 catwalk, and the good thing about them is they’re easy to add to your existing clothing. Throwing different coats and jackets over your outfits immediately makes you look more polished, while women’s pants in colours like bright blue and baby pink strike a balance between smart and fun.
- Dress up your look with feathers and fringing
Going out out? Then you need to go all out. As you’ll have seen from the other items on this list, this spring is no time to fade into the background. Fringing and/or feathers adorned many designer dresses, no matter what style or colour they were. (Seriously – cosy cartoon-print sweater dresses got the same treatment as glitzy silver evening gowns.)
Whatever your preferences, let one piece take centre stage. You’ll make an impact as soon as you arrive – and all you’ll need to do is put on a dress.
Will you be adding any of these looks to your wardrobe? Which spring fashion trend is your favourite? Let us know in the comments.
