So while we’ve been getting a few gorgeous days here in Toronto, the fact still remains that the weather is getting colder so I thought I would share some of my favorite makeup products that I love using during the colder months. Dry skin is basically public enemy number one, especially when it comes to the colder months, like Fall and winter. I’m not going to be talking about all face products; just mainly base products such as primers, foundations, concealers and powders. Makeup will only look as hydrated as the skin underneath so these are products that are very hydrating and nourishing to my dry skin. I’m sure there are other products out there that works just as fantastic or even better but these are the ones that I love and use and that sits really well on my dry skin. If you get dry skin like I do this time of year, then these will be some great options for you!
Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer: Oh, the smell of coconut can be so intoxicating at times. This primer has a nice refreshing coconut smell that isn’t overpowering in any way. This does feel like a very luxurious moisturizer that sinks into the skin easily and absorbs quickly and is the perfect primer for those with dry skin. When applied to the face it feels very moisturizing but not greasy. I also love that it’s not silicon based so it doesn’t feel heavy on my face. Other hydrating primers I’ve tried and really enjoy tremendously are the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer and the Josie Maran Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm. I have a few deluxe sample sizes in these and love them both as well. Super great and hydrating for dry skin.
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm*: Because of my combination/dry skin that tends to lean towards being more dry, I tend to add additional products to really ensure my skin is prepped properly before I even consider applying makeup. I use this as a primer instead of a moisturizer. As a primer, I don’t find it helps to prolong my make-up wear time but it’s a nice base for makeup. What I love is that it deeply hydrates my skin and gives a light plumping effect and also gives my makeup a really smooth finish. I have not seen any tightening results but I don’t use it for that purpose so that’s not a deal breaker for me.
MUFE Ultra HD Stick Foundation: This is my favorite stick foundation. It provides buildable coverage and layers beautifully without looking cakey. It has a buttery smooth texture that melts into the skin without feeling heavy and feels very hydrating on the skin. I would say the finish is a natural satin matte. I prefer buffing the formula into the skin with a slightly dampened beauty sponge for a seamless finish.
Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation: This foundation consists of anti-aging properties, skin brightening effects and a boost of hydration. When I use this, the skin feels and looks moisturized and fresh. The finish is dewy and makes my skin look glowing, smooth and poreless. It offers a great medium coverage that really blurs imperfections and it doesn’t feel cakey at all.
L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation: The texture of this foundation is really creamy and easy to blend. It is hydrating, creamy and it doesn’t look patchy or cakey nor does it emphasize or adheres to drier areas. The coverage is easy to build, and I’ve had no issues with it appearing heavy or cakey on my face. It actually feels really smooth and lightweight like you’re not wearing anything at all.
A couple other foundations that I really enjoy and that are great for dry skin are the MUFE Water Blend Face & Body Foundation and the Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid. Both contains some good skincare ingredients and are very hydrating on the skin.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: This is my absolute favorite drugstore concealer, and probably my overall favorite ever. This concealer is both moisturizing and long-lasting without creasing. It blends really well and has a natural finish and does an excellent job of hiding any blemishes and acne scars without looking cakey.
YSL Touche Éclat Radiant Touch Concealer*: This works under the eyes to brighten but it does concealing in a very minimal and natural way. The coverage is sheer so if you have really bad dark under eye circles or need spot coverage, it won’t do much for you in terms of concealing but if you need brightening, then this is good. It’s great for dry skin as it isn’t drying at all, and it doesn’t crease or settles into my fine lines.
Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder: This is newer to my collection but I’m already in love with it. I love this powder and it sets my makeup flawlessly. This is not drying or powdery and has a soft finish. I will have a full review next week here on the blog.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders: These ambient lighting powders are so ideal for us dry girls. Personally and for my skin tone, I love using Dim Light (my holy grail) to set all over the face, including the under eyes. I also mix Incandescent Light and Dim Light for the under-eyes as well. My face doesn’t look dry, cakey or powdery. I actually just repurchased the one pictured as I finished one compact already. Crazy right? That’s how much I love it!
I also want to mention an affordable alternative, which is the Avon Ideal Flawless Pressed Powder. If you can get your hands on this, it is such a fantastic powder. This has a nice creamy texture. It is really nice and doesn’t emphasize my dry skin; it just gives a beautiful finish.
So those are some of my favorite primers, foundations, concealers and powders for dry skin. If you have dry skin and there’s something that you absolutely adore, please let me know in the comment section below as I would love to discover some new products for my skin type!
Have a great weekend beauties!
