I’ve been curious about Colourpop Cosmetics for some time now and have been meaning to make an order but just never got around to it and then with such a wide selection, I just never knew what I wanted or even knew where to start. The brand is known for making great quality and affordable products and is cruelty free and vegan. So just before Christmas, I finally made a little splurge and treated myself to some of this goodness. Delivery to Toronto, Canada was almost 3 weeks, and shipping was free as I made my order over $50 US. Below I’m sharing what I picked up and my thoughts on them….

Swatches from L-R: Truth, Nillionaire, So Quiche, Lala, Cricket, and Mittens

“Mile High” Kit comes with 6 gorgeous shades: (1st row) Truth, Nillionaire & So Quiche; with the (2nd row) Lala, Cricket & Mittens. Much like the Highlighters, the ColourPop Super Shock collection comes in very light-weight, white plastic compacts with clear, twist-off lids.

Mile High Shadow Kit contains a matte cream, a glitter, a satin beige and metallics. These eye shadows have a beautiful and unique texture to them. It’s bouncy, soft, silky, and creamy. The shadows are a cream-powder hybrid formula that blends really nicely through the crease. All of the shades have good pigmentation and apply smoothly. You can apply these shadows either with your fingers or with a denser blending brush. The formula is long-wearing with no signs of creasing after 8 hours of wear. My personal favorites are Lala, Nillionaire and Cricket.

ColourPop recommends applying the eyeshadows directly with your fingers or with a synthetic brush to get the most colour pay-off but I find that each shadow is different as some work well with any type of makeup brush, and others are best applied with your fingers.  I definitely prefer their shimmer and metallic shadows above their matte eyeshadows although I find the matte shadow that came in this kit was easy to work with.  As a lover of shimmery shadows, I’m totally digging these.  All 6 shades are wearable for everyday and these would be a great start for makeup beginners or if you want to try Colourpop and you’re just not sure where to start.

From L-R: Smoke N Whistles & Churro Highlighters

The Highlighters in Smoke N Whistles and Churro (US $8)
Smoke N Whistles is a cool-toned pink champagne with silver highlights and a metallic sheen.

Churro is a coppery peach with flips of gold shimmer and silver glitter.  It is a tie-dye highlighter that combines Stole the Show, Avalon, and Wisp.

As you all know, I absolutely love highlighters so of course I had to pick up two of them. The highlighters are absolutely beautiful and the texture is incredible and felt just amazing to the touch. I cannot believe that these are $8 dollar highlighters. They are a cream-powder formula that is comparable to their metallic eyeshadows. The texture is bouncy, soft, silky, and creamy and blends beautifully over the skin without looking like it’s sitting on top of it. These are really easy to apply, long-wearing, and nicely pigmented. I find that of the two, Smoke N Whistles had more of a metallic finish but it didn’t emphasize pores. It really gives a gorgeous high sheen.  My personal favorite is Smoke N Whistles but I can see me wearing Churro quite a bit in the summer time. They both lasted about eight hours on me.

Fingertips will provide the highest amount of coverage but I also like to use a duo fiber brush for application. A flat synthetic brush will give more coverage and the duo fiber brush will give a more sheer, air brushed effect.

The Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Solow (US $6)

This is a Flamingo pink shade.

The formula is very thin and lightweight and glides onto the lips somewhat smoothly and leave a pigment-rich colour. This particular shade had minimal transfer and after eating, it loses some of its color. I have heard the formula is super drying and while I do agree that it’s drying, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It didn’t crumble off at all but it wasn’t the most comfortable to wear. The formula is a little dry but nothing a little lip balm underneath won’t fix. The only issue I have with this is that it is way too pink for my pigmented lips, and not very flattering on me. On me, the color wore for six hours with some fading and was neither too drying nor hydrating. Like I do with all matte lipsticks, prep carefully. I always exfoliate my lips and wear a balm on my lips prior to application. After application, wait about 2 minutes for the product to dry before pressing your lips together to prevent the lipstick from moving. While I enjoy the formula, Kat Von D liquid lipstick is my favorite formula of liquid lipstick as I find that they dry down to an ultra matte yet comfortable finish that doesn’t budge whereas these ones from Colourpop can separate.

Swatches from L-R: Smoke N Whistles & Churro Highlighters and Solow & Echo Park Lippies

The Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick in Echo Park (US $6)

This is a warm peachy nude shade.

The consistency of this is very lightweight but felt thicker than the Ultra Matte formula, but not heavy in anyway. This dries down to a soft finish but not a full matte like a liquid lipstick for example. It had great color payoff that applied evenly and smoothly and also felt very creamy. There is some tackiness but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color. This formula has been long-wearing and comfortable to wear and wore really well for about six hours as well. It was neither drying nor hydrating and it is not completely kiss proof. It really is a great comfortable formula to wear and I prefer this formula and color over the Ultra Matte.

Overall, I love everything I picked up and highly recommend you give Colourpop a try but suggest you research swatches of all the shades you are interested in prior to purchase as I have found that some of the swatches on the ColourPop website are not always true to colour; for example, the unflattering Solow lip color I picked up. Because of the price point, I think it’s worth purchasing, plus, the wide array of color options for everything is astonishing.

Have to bought anything from ColourPop yet?

xo ❤
