Stay ahead with your skin routine.
Skincare has become one of the fastest-growing category in beauty, spawning micro-trends, better treatments, products, tools, and innovations to come in this sector that bridge the gaps between skincare and wellness, makeup, and technology. No longer is your skincare routine just a daily necessity; instead, it’s an opportunity to indulge in self-care, absorb information, and explore innovation.
With the global skin-care market booming you can get bigger and better treatments, products, tools, and innovations to come in this sector. As a content creator, uncovering and discovering new beauty trends, in particularly skincare is one of the best parts of what I do. On TikTok, the hashtag #skincare has a whopping 164.6 billion views and counting, with experts, influencers, content creators and TikTokers sharing their routines, top tips and favourite products.
As we start to transition into warmer seasons, here’s what you can you expect to see for skincare biggest trends and buzzy ingredients for spring/summer 2023 and really, the rest of the year.
Skincare + Makeup Hybrids
Multitasking beauty products are products that serve more than one function. We see more and more people like myself looking for ways to make their skincare and makeup routine more affordable as these are products that offer more to consumers: more functionality, more space and more savings. It’s also a great way to streamline your beauty routine. The focus is on skincare, always working to improve the quality of skin even whilst wearing makeup.
People are reaching for skincare-makeup hybrids, products that function like makeup but have skincare benefits; and these products are better than ever. As a result, we’re already seeing a lot of tinted sunscreens, SPF in makeup and lip oils, blush that you can use as color for the lips, cheeks and eyelids, and serums that works as makeup primers. And what you get? A fresh-faced, even-toned makeup look and saving lots of time while doing so.

The Continued Evolution of Celebrity Skincare
I know what you’re thinking, not another celebrity skincare line. But, if you’ve been paying attention, I don’t think this trend is going anywhere soon as everyone every celebrity is trying to get into the booming skincare market right now. From Hailey Bieber’s Rhode, Kim Kardashian: SKKN by Kim, Idris & Sabrina Elba: S’Able Labs, Scarlett Johansson’s The Outset, to Vanesssa Hudgens KNOW and Ciara’s OAM (On a Mission). Plus, we’re already seeing a lot of new product drops in 2023 and there’s gonna be more to come.

The Skin Barrier Repair
We’re going to see more emphasis on nurturing and taking care of the skin’s barrier as we look for new ways to achieve a healthy glow, starting with our skin barrier. The skin barrier is important to human life. Physically, it protects from external threats such as infectious agents, chemicals, systemic toxicity and allergens. Internally, the skin helps to maintain homeostasis and protects from enhanced loss of water from the body. A healthy moisture barrier retains water better, keeping your skin hydrated, smooth, and improving elasticity. It also helps your skin to fend off environmental aggressors, like pollution, and be less prone to sensitivity and irritation. Rather than over-exfoliating the skin with harsh actives, be mindful of your skin’s overall health. There will be a greater move to boost the microbiome specifically, using gentle prebiotic-based formulas, which will greatly help those suffering from acne, rosacea, or skin sensitivity.

Sustainability
Beauty continues to grow as one of the leading industries worldwide. Because of the high interest in beauty, brands are finding ways to become more creative with their products, addressing specific concerns and/or target audiences. One big trend in beauty is sustainability. People are interested in indulging in beauty products that are innovative, clean, good for the environment, or good for their bodies. From packaging to refillable products, skincare brands are placing an emphasis on keeping their manufacturing and production environmentally friendly and sustainable for the future.

Bodycare 1.0 2.0
Sometimes it can be hard or we forget to give the same attention to our body as we do our face when it comes to skincare. Bodycare is the new skincare, as we are in the age of selfcare and focusing on ourselves as a whole. We will be seeing popular ingredients such as retinol and AHAs in our bodycare as well, as we continue to advance in skincare below the neck. At the end of 2022, we have already seen the rise in body products such as body serums and now we’re going to be seeing more of that goes beyond your standard shower gel and bar soap. I’m excited!

At Home Tech-Focused Skincare
Pandemic lockdowns have given this trend a push. Beauty is shaping up as the next frontier, allowing consumers to take closer personal control over their beauty routines. New skin-care tech lets you take matters into your own hands.
As of 2020, the global home-use beauty devices market was valued at approximately $9.5 billion in 2020, according to this report. Consumers who’d learned to take beauty tech into their own hands continued doing so, and brands have been busily innovating to meet this increased demand. I do love my face roller and gua sha. These are the only face tools I’ve ever used but I’m interested to maybe exploring other home devices this year.
