3 Healthy Homemade Dips You Can Dunk Anything Into

Are you a dip lover? Sometimes, all you need is a dip and something to dunk in it. It’s the ultimate snack for all occasions. Want something to have while watching a film? Chips and dip go perfectly. Need something to quench your hunger between meals? Dip some carrots in something!

Dips are wonderfully versatile, but there’s a catch. Most are terribly unhealthy, meaning our dip obsession is doing more harm than good. Don’t let this get you down; you can make dips healthier by creating them at home! Here are three healthy homemade dips you can dunk anything into:

Smashed Avocado

The simplest dip of all time.

Get an avocado, spoon out the mixture, and mash it with a drizzle of oil, some lime juice, salt, and chili flakes. That’s it. You now have a dip that’s kind of like guacamole but way healthier than the stuff you buy from the store. It’s perfect for dipping various things in. Nacho chips work well, as do carrot sticks, cucumbers, peppers, or any other chips you have lying in the cupboards.

Ranch Greek Yogurt

Those three words don’t feel as though they belong together. You see Greek yogurt as something quite sweet; you eat it with a drizzle of honey and some berries. In actuality, natural Greek yogurt is quite sour. It makes it the perfect substitute for unhealthy sour cream.

Mix it with some garlic powder, onion powder, dill, and parsley and you have a delicious ranch dressing. It’s way healthier than any ranch dressing you’ll buy in the grocery store and arguably tastes better. Once again, you can snack on this dip with pretty much anything you have in your house.

Hummus

If you want a healthy dip, steer clear of the hummus you find in shops. Why? Because it’s usually full of too much oil and salt, making it wildly unhealthy. If you make it at home, hummus can be much healthier.

All you really need are chickpeas, tahini, and a few spices. You can find loads of hummus recipes out there, and the beauty of this dip is how it can be flavored. Add some chili for a bit of heat or sprinkle in some paprika for smokiness. All the while, every spoonful gives you protein and fiber from the chickpeas; it’s a wonderful option. When you make it at home, you’re in control of all the ingredients so you know it’s healthy. Now, you can dip anything into this, but why not go one step further and find a homemade pita bread recipe too? It pairs perfectly with hummus, giving you a snack you can’t help but go back to again and again.

I mentioned it in the previous paragraph, but the joy of homemade dips is that you’re in control. You never have to worry about added ingredients or preservatives as you see everything that goes into them. It lets you enjoy your favorite snacks without feeling guilty.
