While my blog primarily focuses on beauty and hair, I want to take a moment to reflect on something that’s important to me and something that many of us go through: body confidence.
We all have our body demons. These are the bits of ourselves that we’re not happy with. Rather than focus on all our perceived attributes, we get stuck on the areas we don’t like. For some, it can be extremely debilitating and can get in the way of our happiness and self-esteem. What can we do to fight the demons and feel happy in our own skin?
- Reassess Your Goals
There’s nothing wrong with having body goals and wanting to make changes. Being confident isn’t about accepting the here and now, though this may be the decision you reach. But it’s important to assess your goals. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What would it take to make you happy with your body?
- If you woke up tomorrow and were miraculously transformed, how would this change your life?
- Why do you want to lose the weight, tone up, have bigger boobs, etc.?
- Do you blame everything that is wrong in your life on your physical appearance?
Try to be completely honest with yourself. Is it likely that once you have made the change, you still won’t be satisfied? If you’re changing for the wrong reasons, it’s unlikely you’ll reach your goal.
On the other hand, if asking these questions reassures you that you are doing the right thing, it’s more likely that the changes will be positive.
- Don’t Put Your Life On Hold
When you’re making changes to your physical appearance, there’s a temptation to put your life on hold. For example, you stop going to parties, or to the swimming baths until you’ve lost the weight. Live in the here and now. Have fun and don’t wait for some point in the future when you hope to look different.
- Make Small Changes
Don’t try to change everything all at once. This is the road to failure. And if you fail, this will have a negative impact on your self-esteem. Not only will you have failed to meet your goals but you will feel weak and ineffective. So, make small achievable changes first.
That said, sometimes, no matter how hard we try it’s not possible to make the desired transformation. For example, we stick to a healthy diet and have a strict exercise regime but cannot shift that stubborn fat. In these cases, cosmetic treatments such as VASER lipo may make all the difference. Advances in technology mean that many treatments are now more efficient and less evasive than ever before.
- Dress Up
Following on from point 2 about putting your life on hold, don’t wait until you’re the perfect size to make the most of your looks. Try the following for an immediate boost:
- Get your hair cut, even if it’s just a trim
- Watch some online tutorials and experiment with makeup
- Buy some pretty underwear in your current size
- Treat yourself to a new outfit
- Buy some new shoes or accessories
- Be Happy
Feeling unhappy and stressed leads to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. As well as the emotional impact, this also impacts on your physical appearance. Find ways to identify stress triggers and lead a calmer life.
Do the things that you love and be with the people who love you for who you are right now.
