If you have curly hair like I do, then you know there are many haircare lines out there that promises to keep our curls soft, frizz free and looking beautiful. It can be difficult at times to decipher which ones are truly good because it means we have to try a few to find some gems. While I do try a lot of hair products, there are only a few gems that I always go back to. I love discovering new products that turn into new favorites and that way I get to share them with you all, especially my curly hair girls ☺️ I think controlling curly hair should be stress-free, don’t you think? ?
For the past couple weeks, I had the pleasure of testing five styling products from the Curl Keeper line* and I’m pleasantly surprised by most of them. The ingredients in Curl Keeper are natural, biodegradable and are not tested on animals. Their styling products are water based ingredients making it perfect for humid weather conditions as they reactivate with water. It was quite interesting that on each of the Curl Keeper bottle, it labeled what the pH balance was so I really found this helpful. All Curl Keeper products are acid-balanced to maintain the pH of healthy hair. It’s important that the products you use are pH balanced so your hair can maintain a normal pH level. I have naturally curly hair that gets dry and frizzy, so I want products that will provide nourishment and shine to my hair.
Curl Keeper ORIGINAL Total Control for Frizzy Hair: Curl Keeper Original provides frizz control and curl definition. This is a water-based formula and contains no silicones, which means you can use it every day without product buildup as the unique formula re-activates with water. Curl Keeper is perfect because it doesn’t add weight to my curls (it’s very lightweight), just great definition and volume. How I use this is by applying a leave in conditioner to my hair first and then add the Curl Keeper Original on top. It leaves my hair shiny and define. It helps manage frizz while defining my curls.
Curl Keeper TWEEK “Hairspray” in A Cream Form: Curl Keeper Tweek is a “hairspray” in a cream form for curly hair. Tweek is a styling cream that does for curly hair what hairspray does for straight hair. It is a very versatile product as it can be used for several different applications. This is a water soluble product that does not damage hair. It does not contain drying alcohol or silicones, which can damage the hair and create product buildup. It is non-sticky and has a nice clean, light natural scent.
I use this as a final finishing product. Unlike sprays it doesn’t go all over the place; I can apply it exactly where I want it, including at the roots. It’s amazing for flyaways and a little goes a long way. It also give great volume. Really liking this one!
Curl Keeper REMANE STRAIGHT Straightens and Smoothes Hair: This is a non-chemical styling hair relaxer that assists in straightening and smoothing curly hair. ReMane Straight safely protects the hair against heating and stretching during blow-drying, by sealing the hair cuticle. Protects curly hair from frizz due to humidity keeping the hair feeling clean for longer lasting hairstyles. Pure extracts of Chamomile, Oat Straw, Sage and Nettle protect the hair from extreme heat.
Now, I wasn’t a fan of this one. The thing is I rarely ever straighten my hair and when I do I usually go to my hairdresser for that so I was using this just as a styling cream and I didn’t fine that it gave me any bounce or volume. It just kinda made my curls shrink and flat. Now keep in mind that the reason this likely didn’t work for me is because it is meant to assists in straightening and smoothing curly hair and I didn’t attempt to straighten my hair while I had in it. Still though, I just didn’t think it did anything for my hair.
Curl Keeper SLIP 30 Second Detangler: Curl Keeper Slip Detangler is a silicone free detangling leave-in conditioner that will instantly loosen hair knots, lock in hair colour and eliminate flyaway hair. Slip apparently has the strength to adjust the pH balance of your hair to give you strong healthy hair without adding any weight by shutting the hair cuticle locking in the new curly hair color making the hair feel soft and smooth again. This detangling leave-in conditioner comes in a convenient spray bottle that distributes the product evenly and thoroughly. Love the spray bottle!
I don’t usually use a detangler in my hair (I just never felt like I needed one and my hair usually detangles quite easily after a wash) but I do for my girls hair (ages 4 & 8) and this works perfectly for their curly hair. I spray this onto their hair and it makes their hair so soft and makes all the knots just slip right through the comb. It doesn’t cause any build up in their hair and can be used daily as part of their regular hair maintenance routine. I love that it is a natural hair product so I feel good using it in their hair. It dries quickly and doesn’t leave their hair sticky or weighed down. It’s important to wait at least 30 seconds, and then begin detangling from ends to roots.
Curl Keeper BEACH MIST A Blast of Ocean Air: This claims to drastically improve the moisture balance that is essential for creating volume, bounce and strength to your hair and with 84 trace elements that are brewed from Pink Himalayan Crystal Salts, these energizers work like electrolytes drawing moisture from the air to your hair and skin.
The Beach Mist is one of those beach hair sprays that deliver that voluminous beach day hair. I use the Beach Mist when I want to add volume to my curls and mostly during the summer time. Honestly I’m not usually a big fan of beach mists and I have never really found one that I love, because they don’t usually work that great for my curly hair. I think the Beach Mists are great for straight or wavy hair. This was my least favorite item from the line, only because as I have stated, they just don’t work for my hair type as I don’t like how dry and crunchy it makes my hair feel. I would not purchase this personally.
Overall, I love the Curl Keeper line and my favorites from everything I’ve tried are the Curl Keeper Original and Tweek and I absolutely love the Slip for my girl’s hair. These are repurchases for me and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a more natural haircare line and something that will do a very good job at frizz control. I am now curious about their Styling cream and Leave-in-conditioner as those are things I usually gravitate towards more when it comes to my curly hair. I love the cute packaging and the smell of every product.
