So I was browsing the web about a week ago when I came across an advertisement for the Dippity-do Girls with Curls hair products. I am not even sure how I ended up on the website but I remember being really excited seeing the products specifically catering to girls with curls and since I have natural curly hair, naturally I wanted to try it. Apparently this has been out since March 2014 here in Canada. Couple days after seeing the ad, I was at my local Wal-Mart so I decided to search for it and there is was, Dippity-do Girls with Curls hair products so of course, blogger duty calls and being the beauty junkie that I am, I decided to pick up a couple items from the line. Also, I am on a never-ending quest to find the perfect hair product(s) that is just going to work miracles for me so I decided to try the Curl Defining Cream and the Curl Shaping Gelée as it is supposedly formulated for wavy to curly hair to naturally eliminate frizz, flyaways and split ends. This is a complete hair system that comes with the Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner Treatment, Styling cream and Gel. It says these are alcohol and paraben free.
Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I am mixed with color treated 3b hair type that is on the dry and frizzy side.
Curl Defining Cream – This is a lightweight cream that feels like a balm and is non-greasy. After freshly wash hair and still slightly damp, I apply this first and let my hair air-dry like I always do. It feels really nice and soft while applying it to my hair and it also has a very pleasant smell. However, after about 1-2 hours, my hair is dry, dull, and frizzy. I don’t know if it’s the changing weather here in Canada, as we’re on the cooler side, but I found that this cream just sucks the moisture from my hair.
This did not provide any definition to my hair instead my hair felt really light with no body, it was dry, dull, frizzy and a tangled mess. It took me days for my hair to look healthy again.
Curl Shaping Gelée – This has a pink color with a jelly feel and texture. This provided a light crunchy hold that neither shaped, smooth nor separate my hair. There was no bounce, shine, or definition to my hair and I noticed that it flaked a bit as well. All I was left with after one use was dry, dull, stringy and lifeless hair. Separately or together with the Curl Defining Cream, unfortunately my hair was a disaster.
The price tag is great at $5.96 CAD each (Cream 4.2 oz. & Gelée 11.5 oz.), you get a good amount of product for the price. The packaging is really nice and super cute with a bubblegum pink and who doesn’t like pink, come on now. The packaging is just super girly and fun and the product smells really nice too.
My hair needs a lot of moisture and unfortunately this line was not for me. I really hate writing negative reviews and I strongly believe that if you have nothing positive to say, then don’t say anything at all; however, I would not recommend this to anyone, especially if you have dry or damaged hair. Maybe it will work for others who are not mixed but for mixed chicks like myself, stay away from it. I really wish I like this because the price is right and it promises so much but I will stick with my Biolage Gelée.
