Now this post is not about me embracing the no-makeup trend, but rather what I reach for when I don’t want to put too much time or effort in getting ready. Many of days I’ve gone bare-faced (and it feels so good) but then there are those days when I love to glam it up a bit. You know we all have those moments! But what about those days when you have to run an errand… you know, places to be… and things to do. Well, I still don’t want to wear the heavy foundation, or spending hours blending out my eyeshadow… Hubby always say less is more but I also happen to believe that we can occasionally forget the value of spending those extra few minutes on ourselves, and have a bit of selfish-yet-therapeutic ‘me time’ of building a certain self-appreciation. Because it’s not about pleasing anyone else – it’s about looking the way we want to, however that might be. So here are some of the products I reach for when I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup but I still want to play with some colours and still look like I put some effort in…
Base:
bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (I always wonder why the name of this is so looooong) gives a very natural radiant finish and feels super lightweight and hydrating on the skin; plus it has SPF 30 and it’s just great for evening out the skin tone. L’Oreal Lumi Cushion is my lightweight drugstore foundation of choice. If you need to touch up blemishes a bit or need a bit more coverage for dark under-eye circles, then the Maybelline Fit Me concealer is your best friend. It has a nice creamy lightweight coverage but it covers very well and it’s one of my favorite concealers to date when I do wear concealers.
Eyes:
Many of times I don’t even wear eye shadows yet I somehow continue to buy them (*insert confuse look here*; because I’m confuse) but when I do want a wash of colour over the lid I love a good neutral shimmer and a favorite is NARS Earthshine; it’s perfect as an easy all over wash to brighten the eyes. A couple other singles I love are MUG Peach Smoothie, Cosmopolitan, Cocoa Bear and MAC Saddle and Ricepaper. Mind you, I don’t use all these singles at the same time, but when I use them, it’s either one or two at the same time for a wash of colour on the lid and to give my crease some definition.
For me mascaras are a must (it’s basically my make-up necessity) and some days, it’s the only thing I throw on. Mascara is a great way of making your eyes look bigger and more awake. My favorite of all time is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara because it gives incredible length and volume to my short sparse lashes. My drugstore choice is the Maybelline Lash Sensational.
Cheeks:
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Surreal Light palette is everything you need to finish and brighten your skin. Now I’m not saying to contour or anything like that because that is just way too time-consuming but you can add a little colour and dimension with the colours (blush, bronzer and highlight) in this palette, because the powders are so natural looking and offer a multi-dimensional glow that blurs imperfections, corrects redness, and smoothes over the skin for a flawless finish.
Lips:
Finish off with lips with either a nude lip or a sheer lip gloss. I like wearing something neutral yet moisturizing on the lips so I usually go for a shade that looks pretty and natural, like YSL Tint in Oil* which gives my lips a healthy natural glow with a hint of colour.
For days you don’t want to wear a lot of makeup, what are some of the products you reach for? Share in the comments below, I would love to know!
