As women, we’re pretty much programmed to care for others. We’re raised with the expectations that we’ll be the ones looking after children, caring for parents when they’re old and being emotional support to our partners. And as lovely as that is (and as much as we might genuinely enjoy being that person to everyone) we have to remember that we matter too. Investing in yourself is essential, it’s not selfish and should be something that we all remember to do, at least some of the time. Take yourself from the bottom of your priority list, and consider doing these things to boost your confidence and self esteem.
Improve your appearance
The way you look on the outside will always play a part in how you feel on the inside. It’s not about vanity, it’s self care and improving your self esteem. Has it been a while since you’ve had your hair done? Have you stopped spending the time on your skincare routine? Maybe you’ve fallen into a fashion rut, and don’t feel good in any of your clothes any more. Making a few simple changes can make all the difference. Treat yourself to some new things if you can afford it. At the very least, invest a little time each day that you can spend on whatever self care works best for you. It might be styling your hair, putting on makeup, going through a skincare routine or having a bit more time to put a nice outfit together.
Take a course
Building skills in any area you’re interested in is a great way to invest in yourself, and these days you can find courses on just about anything. Something like a first aid course will give you fantastic skills and knowledge that could save a life one day, companies like MyCPR NOW offer everything from stopping heavy bleeding to pet CPR. You could brush up on skills relating to your job, or you could take a course to gain more knowledge about a hobby. If you love beauty for example, how about a nail or makeup course? You could take a course online, or go to an in person class as a way to connect with other people. Perhaps you want to learn to drive, if so, an intensive driving course could get you to your goal quickly? Either way, building any kind of skill is a fantastic investment into yourself.
Travel
Travel is never a waste of time or money, not only is it fun and opens your eyes to new cultures but it’s a fantastic way to build your confidence and self esteem. Travelling to new places pushes you out of your comfort zone, and forces you to find your way around unfamiliar places. If you go overseas, there’s a language barrier to negotiate as well as very different customs to figure out. You can return home knowing that if you’re able to navigate things in a completely different country then everything at home should be a breeze!
Spend time with friends
Spending time with the right people will make you feel great. Good friends build you up, support you when you’re down and cheer you on when things are going well. Having a strong network of friends around you is one of the best ways to build your confidence and self esteem. Being able to chat through any issues gives you a different perspective on things and can really help when you’re feeling low or are getting ‘tunnel vision’ towards a situation. So give your friends and family a call, and arrange that meetup.
