HOW TO BE STYLISH WITHOUT OVERDOING IT

Ever walk down the street and think, “Wow, she looks great. I wish I had that kind of time.” Let it be known that you, in fact, have that kind of time. Many people think that it takes hours of preparation and work to look stylish and look good. The truth is, it takes little effort to look your best. The key is to always take care of yourself and make lifestyle changes that become part of your everyday routine and that maintain a healthy and stylish life. Here are some ways you can look great without having to get up two hours earlier to do your hair.

Get a Low Maintenance Hairstyle

Those magnificent hairstyles you see in magazines are all a ruse. Pictures are just a moment captured in time, and that hair doesn’t stay that way. Another inside tip: it could also be a wig. In the real world, hair needs to be flexible and needs to be styled in a way that you don’t have to worry about it all day. Those models in those pictures were not outside in the elements when those photos were snapped.

Go to the salon and ask about low effort haircuts. An expert can look at your texture and type of hair and know right away what haircut you can have that will look great without having to style it over and over again throughout the day. A haircut that can stay stylish all day long is the one you want to have.

Get Signature Pieces For Your Wardrobe

If you live in a place that has all four seasons or more than one season, get a signature piece for each season of the year. If you live in a place that has one climate, get several pieces that you can switch around as the calendar pages turn. This will keep your wardrobe fresh, but it will also give your style a boost that will make you look chic.

  • Winter: Winter styles are easy. A bunch of great sweaters are all you need. You can swap them out with different pairs of pants that compliment the color and style of the top, and you will look like you walked off a runway. You are going to be bundled up most of the time, so it is easy to look great without breaking the bank.
  • Spring: Things can get more interesting in the spring with a few carefully placed scarves and that one floral pattern that will be reminiscent of fashion week. A light blazer matched with some fashionable shoes are the touches you need to stand out.
  • Summer: It’s all about color. Matching the right colors to show your sunny mood will attract a lot of attention. Fashionable sandals and a carefree beachy haircut mirrors what you see in those glossy prints..
  • Fall: The onset of sweater weather is a harbinger to winter and with some browns and earthy tones on long sleeves and jackets will give you that haute couture look without having to spend a lot of money.

Buy the Right Shoes

Shoes are one of those accessories where it is okay to spend some money. Shoes are very important, and if you live in a big city or you find yourself walking around a lot, the pain of cheap shoes is not worth it. Put out the cash for a good pair of shoes. And do this throughout the year.

When your shoe is stylish, it will really make the outfit. If you have a handful of great shoes and boots and sandals that you can rotate throughout the seasons, then you can make all of your outfits pop. As long as you have one thing in your wardrobe that is expensive, the entire outfit will come together with that same feel even if you didn’t spend a lot of money on every piece of the ensemble.

Designer Jeans

You need one pair of really expensive designer jeans. Once again, this goes back to having one expensive article that brings the entire outfit together. Your sweater may have come off the rack, but your jeans and your shoes can be designer and that sweater and blazer and scarf will look just as fashionable.

Your entire wardrobe can’t be designer. It’s just not practical. Things spill, it rains, you get caught on furniture and nails sticking out, therefore, you need to wear clothing where it’s okay if the coffee spills or the baby spits up. Wearing that one signature piece is all you need to look great with very little effort.

Jewelry

There’s an old saying, “if someone is wearing a lot of jewelry, they are wearing everything they own.” It’s true. Less is more. Whether you own one great necklace or you have an entire room of gems, one of everything is enough. One necklace, one ring, one bracelet. Jewelry is an embellishment to looking great, not the entire outfit.

You can get great jewelry for a great price and it will create the perfect accent for your wardrobe. It’s nice to have a $10,000 tennis bracelet on your wrist, and if you have one, wear it. But don’t match it with four other pieces of jewelry. Make it hassle-free and have one great piece you can wear to look high society without overdoing it.

Low Maintenance Makeup

Unless you’re about to go out on stage, you don’t need to go full face when you leave the house. Makeup is like jewelry, it helps accent your already gorgeous persona. A little goes a long way. Why make more work for yourself when you are already running late in the morning? A little mascara to make the eyes pop, a full lip to show off your smile, and maybe a foundation if you want to smooth things out, but other than that, that’s all you need.

Your makeup routine shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes. If you are trying to cover up aging, that’s not a makeup problem, that’s a lifestyle problem. At night before bed, have a good skincare routine that can help keep your skin looking radiant. Eat well, exercise, and stay hydrated. Makeup accentuates beauty, lifestyle choices reverse aging.

Manicures

In the warm weather months, the manicure/pedicure combo is a great accent to your style. Manicure/pedicures can also be done by yourself at home. Make it as low maintenance as possible. If there is a chip or a scrape, you can fix it yourself. Also, don’t spend too much money on a manicure because you are only going to have to get another one soon enough.

Keep it simple with a nice color and leave it at that. Otherwise, you are going to try and not use your hands to do anything, and what fun is that? Low maintenance manicures can be durable, yet they won’t cost an arm and a leg for something you are going to do all over again in six weeks. Keep it simple, and you won’t worry about living your life in spite of your hands.

Conclusion

It is easy to look stylish without overdoing it. All you need is one piece to draw the attention of the eye and simple embellishments like jewelry and a manicure to bring it all together. A low maintenance hairstyle will keep you looking fresh all day, and some good lifestyle choices will have you always looking absolutely radiant.

Take it easy on yourself and your wallet and live easy.
