HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR SUMMER TAN

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR SUMMER TAN

Okay, so it’s officially Fall and depending on where you live, the final days of warm weather are here and soon the warm summer temps will be just a memory, and chilly Fall weather will start to set in. We all love the healthy glow from our summer holiday tan, but our tan will start to fade if we don’t take the proper steps to maintain it. So here are some top tips to maintaining that summer’s glow:

EXFOLIATE: Shave and exfoliate to remove dead cells on the top layer of your skin to ensure that you have a healthy, smooth canvas. Exfoliating is an important pre and post glow step as it helps to slough off old skin cells. Gently scrub away dead cells and parched surface cells to make sure your skin is smooth and ready for the self-tanning to come. For a post-tan, you’ll still want to gently scrub your whole body about once a week. Try to avoid oily scrubs and acidic exfoliators as they will remove your tan.

GRADUAL TAN: Self-Tanning is a great way to top up your natural tan and extend the colour even as it begins to fade. The subtle colour will enhance your tan without looking overdone. Self-tanning moisturizers are a great option for keeping skin hydrated, while adding a subtle boost to your tan all year long. I’ve been reaching for The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Body BB Cream for this.

BRONZER: The easiest way to fake a tan is with good old bronzer. Use a bronzer like Becca’s Sunlit Bronzer to add subtle but noticeable color to complement and enhance a tan. This is a favorite!

STAY HYDRATED: This should already be a given – but keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water. This can help maintain the glow and delay peeling and exfoliation. While you’re hydrating from the outside, make sure to lock moisture in by applying a moisturizer. Keeping your body moisturized will make your tan look better and last longer. Do you know our skin cells have a life of 21-28 days? They are produced in our deepest skin level and rise to the surface before dying. This means we have to constantly take care of our skin to keep it healthy. Also by keeping skin moisturized throughout the day helps keep it bronzed. Use a moisture-locking lotion, body butter, body oil or shower oil. Jergens Natural Glow Tan Extender is specifically designed to preserve color.
