How To Reduce Wedding Planning Stress

Your wedding day will be wonderful. The only challenges are managing the organisation and emotion that you’ll encounter along the way. All is not lost – our six-step guide to handling wedding stress will help you make sure you’re sprinting down the aisle, feeling just the way you want to feel.

  1. Recognise the signs of stress

Stress is part of everyday life. The problem comes when stress starts to overwhelm us. There are lots of different of symptoms that show stress is getting out of control and being able to recognise them is an early warning something needs to change, before you reach the point of not coping.

  1. Ask for help

Once you’ve identified that you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s time to get some support. Asking for help isn’t easy, especially if you’re a bit of a perfectionist, but the people who care will want to give you all the backing you need to help you enjoy your day. It can be something small like asking one of your bridesmaids to make a few calls you’ve been putting off, or something bigger, like getting everyone together to help you write out all those wedding invitations.

  1. Trust the professionals

The wedding business is packed with people who are experts in their field, and who understand what you need to make your wedding wonderful. Use the skills of companies who can help you book the perfect wedding band or organise your dream floral decorations. This will take some of the stress from your shoulders, and leave you free to enjoy yourself on the day.

  1. Get outside

Take a walk, or a run, or just sit on a bench and look at the sky. Getting outside is a great way to reduce your stress levels and by taking yourself out of your home or office environment, you’ll be able to get some perspective. Try to train yourself to notice nice things, like the green of the grass, or new shoots coming up in spring. If you’re in a built-up environment, this might seem impossible, but there’s always something, even if it’s just a cheeky sparrow hanging around outside the baker’s hoping for stray crumbs.

  1. Unplug

Switch off for as little as twenty minutes. You’ll find getting away from your phone, TV and laptop will have a huge benefit in reducing your stress levels. Stepping away from the constant flow of bad news and things that need doing gives your brain a chance to relax and reprioritise. You might find taking a break from the competitive world of social media is really helpful too.

  1. Use planning tools

There are lots of great wedding planning tools on the net. Even if you’re not a natural list-maker, it makes sense to use some of them to help you keep on track. Something simple like a notebook filled with the contact details of your top wedding suppliers, or a clearly laid out budget sheet will save you time and help you feel in control.
