Laura Mercier has expanded the “Candleglow” line to include this new Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder as well as their Candleglow Concealer and Highlighter. The Candleglow powder is a multipurpose, modern pressed powder that sets, perfects, and finishes, leaving skin with a diffused, luminous glow and is supposed to deliver just enough sheer color to create the perfect, subtle glow, while brightening up the complexion with a soft-focus finish. This Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder comes in 6 shades and I have shade 3 – light to medium. When it comes to setting powders, I prefer ones with medium coverage.
Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder (CAD $46 / US $38) is a lightweight, sheer setting powder that has a soft luminous finish. The texture is incredibly finely-milled, and feels like a silky powder as it goes onto the skin. I was able to get eight hours of wear before my t-zone started to show some fading. I liked how well it softened the look of my combo/dry skin without appearing powdery. It does have some shimmer particles if you swatch with a heavy hand but on the face it’s a glow in a compact, but in a subtle, barely-there way and it will definitely leave you looking like you have a natural, lit-from-within glow. It makes my pores (almost) disappear and softens lines. Doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores and never looks cakey.
My favorite setting powder is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (I actually just repurchased another compact) because it gives the most gorgeous flawless finish. I have a swatch below of Dim Light to compare. I found the Laura Mercier powder to be more noticeable on the skin in terms of color than Hourglass Ambient Dim Light is, as it adds the sheerest hint of complexion-brightening colour and leaves skin with a flattering, candlelit glow. Shade 3 is perfect for my medium olive skin tone although I’m pretty sure shade #2 would have also worked perfectly for me as well. I used it dusted all over my face as a finishing powder, and it sets my makeup without mattifying my skin. I didn’t find it to be as soft as the Hourglass Ambient Lightning powders and it does not kick out a bunch of powder when you stick your brush in like Dim Light does.
But I also love this new Candleglow Sheer Setting Powder. This is the closest I’ve found to Dim Light in terms of finish and look but with a touch of color. While testing this out, I dust it on one half of my face and HG Dim Light on the other half and honestly, expect for the hint of color that this gives, I wouldn’t be able to tell which was which. Both gave a blurred soft flawless lit-from-within glow. It softens my skin and adds a subtle natural glow making my skin looks brighter and not so dull looking. Definitely recommends!
