Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation is a new hydrating matte foundation for spring 2016. Oh those two words: matte + hydrating, somehow, these two words sound so foreign to my ears. Is it even possible? But that is what Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation claims. Maybelline describes this as their first hydrating matte foundation for 100% velvet-smooth perfection while skin stays hydrated for 12 hours with a unique gel-whipped formula that is ideal for normal to combination skin.
The packaging is nice and simple; it comes in a squeeze tube which is great for controlling the amount of product that comes out. There were 12 different shades available which is a pretty good range and you can probably find a good match with the shades that are available. I have mine in the shade 75 Natural Beige which matches my medium/olive skin tone with yellow undertones fairly well.
This is a thick gel-whipped, velvety mousse formula with a creamy whipped consistency that is not runny at all and blends beautifully and smoothly into skin. It provides medium coverage with a soft-matte finish. It lays really nicely on the skin, feels very lightweight and comfortable without feeling heavy or cakey. It covers redness very well and skin tone is more even while looking natural. It wore comfortable on me for about 7 hours. The new Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation was a pleasant surprise for me. I have combination/dry skin and matte foundation tends to always find its way to my dry patches around my nose. Although it says it is ideal for normal to combination skin, it works wonderful for my skin. I was worried it would adhere to drier, flakier areas around my nose but it didn’t cling or emphasize any dry patches or flakes at all. However, I do recommend exfoliating because I can see this possible emphasizing dry patches if skin is not properly exfoliated. I wouldn’t say that this foundation is particularly hydrating but it definitely works for combination/dry skin. I would suggest if you are oily in the T-zone to use a mattifying primer.
I applied my foundation using the Maybelline Dream Velvet Blender. I will have a review on this tomorrow so check back for that. The Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation retails for CAD $16.99 and can be found at Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart.
