Now You Can Try The Iridescent Highlighter Trend The Affordable Way!
NYX Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powders are the latest addition to the NYX makeup family. These highlighting powders launched in five shades with the NYX Spring 2017 Collection and I was kindly sent all five shades. I’ve been playing and testing these for a couple weeks now and I’m ready to tell you what I think of them!! We’ve all seen brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills’s with the launch of the Moonchild Glow Kit, as well as Kat Von D and her Alchemist Holographic Palette.
Description on NYX website: “Light up your features with our new Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder. Available in five glowing shades, this silky Powder blends like a dream for a fresh-faced look. This breathtaking formula’s light-catching pearls deliver a luminous finish that looks different from every angle. Brush this illuminating wonder along the highest points of the face—such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and Cupid’s bow.”
These come in 5 shades:
- Snow Rose – White base with pink & lilac duo chromatic pearls
- Twilight Tint – White base with blue duo chromatic pearls
- Lavender Steel – Soft lavender with pink & lavender duo chromatic pearls
- Crushed Bloom – Dusty rose with pink & light blue duo chromatic pearls
- Synthetica – Pink base with gold duo chromatic pearls
Now normally I wouldn’t be drawn to highlighting powders like these and honestly, if these weren’t sent to me, I likely would have never picked them up. But I must say I’ve been quite surprised and impressed with these powders.
These have a smooth texture and though the formula was a bit firm in the pan, (but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing as it makes it easier to control and build coverage and finish as desired) it did not feel stiff or difficult to get pigmentation out but it wasn’t as loosely pressed as a lot of high-end highlighters on the market for example. It was easy to pick up with a brush and they blended out easily on the skin. I recommend going in with a light hand when applying these as they are actually quite pigmented. I believe if skin is prep really well, there should be no problem with them emphasizing pores or skin’s texture.
These are all unique, but still universally flattering so there’s a color for every skin-tone. These are formulated with unique chromatic pearls that create a holographic finish and the formula has light-catching pearls which deliver a luminous finish that looks different from every angle. I personally love Snow Rose, Crushed Bloom and Synthetica. Crushed Bloom is my favorite of the bunch (I use it as a blush) although I find that it’s the one that was the most powdery but it really is flattering and beautiful on my medium complexion. I likely won’t get too much use out of the other two as I really didn’t like the way they look on my skin…just not my cup of tea but they’re pretty nonetheless. These wore very well for about 8 hours before they start to fade.
The prices on these are ridiculously affordable at US $8 / CAD $13 and can be found at your local drugstores. These highlighters are beautiful and you’re getting quality product for the price although the packaging is cheap. So, if you’re on a budget, love duo chromatic types of makeup and you fancy this trend or you just wanna look like a unicorn, then you’ll love these NYX Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powders.
