Most girls know just how much fun wearing makeup can be. Whether you started experimenting with it in your teens and are now a seasoned pro, or whether you have only recently got into makeup, no one can deny that it’s a very exciting world to be a part of at the moment. There are hundreds of fresh and innovative new brands appearing all the time, and it’s never been easier to access high quality makeup for a reasonable price. But what is the point in spending all that time perfecting that amazing highlight or the perfect cat eye if just hours later, it’s all come off your face anyway? Makeup that doesn’t last is a real problem for many women, and until recently there weren’t that many options to help solve it. The obvious solution was to carry your makeup with you in your purse, but we all know that isn’t always a practical option. Thankfully, there are now a few hacks you can use to make sure that once your makeup is on, it stays firmly put.
Only use long-lasting makeup
Go into any drugstore and you will notice that among all the makeup ranges, some boast about products that are specifically designed to be ‘long lasting’. Make a note of which ones are within your budget range and check some online reviews to see if they are worth the money. As a general rule, any makeup that has been branded as ‘long lasting’ will generally fare much better in terms of longevity than its regular counterparts. So, consider trading in your current products for the longer lasting versions.
Prime, prime, prime
We’ve all heard of primer, but how many people actually know what it is? Primer is a product that is meant to be used after moisturiser, that sits on the skin’s surface and prevents your makeup being absorbed into your pores. It also gives your skin a smooth sheen, which means that the makeup you apply goes on much more evenly. Apply primer before foundation and concealer and you will notice that you makeup stays put for much longer.
Setting spray
A couple of years ago, most people’s go-to tip for longer lasting makeup was to set it with powder. Now, however, there is a new kid on the block in the form of setting spray. Setting sprays are being popularized all over the place, and you can find them in many popular brands, such as in the collection of Mehron makeup products. They essentially ‘lock in’ your makeup, acting a bit like a hairspray for the face.
Stop touching your face
Face-touching is something many of us do completely absent-mindedly. Most of us don’t even realise the amount of times we touch our own face in any given day, but as well as being unhygienic it can also help to drag our makeup off. Try and be mindful of how many times you reach for your face with your hands, and ask a friend to stop you if he or she notices you doing it.
