A brand I have been seeing a lot of recently is BVSpa by Bon Vital’. Curated as a luxury spa experience, Bon Vital, is a preferred skincare brand of professional massage therapist that brings the luxury spa experience to your doorstep. BVspa has taken this creative process to a new level with a wellness line for at-home skincare that focuses on soothing, rejuvenating and energizing and the products are designed to exfoliate, nourish and hydrate. The collection includes invigorating body scrubs, lotions and skin butters formulated with the finest natural ingredients and essential oils that are free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
I was kindly sent two body scrubs to try, the Lavender & Rosemary Salt Scrub and the Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub.
BVspa Salt Scrubs comfortably remove dry, calloused, dead skin from difficult areas with a moderate level of exfoliation for a soft and smooth feel using Dead Sea Salt, Olive Oil and Jojoba Oil. Personally, I have long been a fan of salt scrubs because I always find them more effective. After the crystals melt, the oils which also includes Shea Butter does a fantastic job of moisturizing the skin leaving it very soft. The lavender and rosemary scent is very soothing!
BVspa Sugar Scrubs gently polish and buff away dry, dull skin for a smooth and radiant glow with Natural Sugar Crystals, Safflower Seed Oil, and Jojoba Oil. Sugar scrubs are often better than salt scrubs for sensitive skin or first time users. The grapefruit scent is invigorating and smells amazing.
Before I get into my thoughts on the scrubs; here’s a quick class on the difference between sugar and salt scrubs. Generally, sugar particles are smaller than salt particles, making them less abrasive on the skin. Sugar scrubs are best for people with sensitive skin, and they’re also preferable to use on the face instead of salt scrubs, since coarse salt granules can irritate delicate skin. Salt is also a detoxifying and purifying agent.
That being said, here are my thoughts on these scrubs. Like most salt scrubs that I’ve tried, they have a stronger exfoliant due to the texture and shape of sea salt granules than the sugar scrubs and leaves an oily residue behind whereas the sugar scrub does not. We know that salt scrubs tend to be more abrasive and more effective at removing dry dead skin on rougher parts of the body; however, in this case, I found that this salt scrub felt much gentler on my skin then the sugar scrub but still effective. This sugar scrub had a rougher texture and it was grittier and also felt more abrasive than the salt scrub but not in a bad way at all; I just wanted to point out the difference in texture. Because of the rougher texture, I felt like it was doing a better job at exfoliating the skin than the salt scrub was, which was surprising because again salt scrubs are generally more abrasive in nature.
Now, both scrubs did a fantastic job at exfoliating, removing dead skin and making my skin feel soft, allowing the skin underneath to become hydrated and rejuvenated and I didn’t think one did a better job than the other (both are effective – the sugar scrub is just rougher while the salt scrub is gentler). I think these scrubs are definitely worth checking out and they have become a welcome addition to my body care routine! In terms of packaging, they both come in a tube and I personally found that because they are both so thick since the formula doesn’t contain any water, I wouldn’t mind having it in a tub as it was a little difficult to squeeze out of the tube.
