I love facial masks and I’m religious when it comes to using them but not so much exfoliators (I think it’s because I haven’t really found any that I quite enjoy or very effective) and so I decided to change that and hauled the Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder. This is a water-activated enzyme powder exfoliant and cleanser.
The jar is very lovely and there’s a small sliding cap under the lid that can be pushed back and forth to cover or reveal a small hole through which you can pour the powder.
Formulated with nourishing Japanese rice bran blended with papaya extracts, this powder is extremely finely milled. After I remove my makeup at the end of the day (It’s also easy enough to use in the mornings), I go in with this which is really easy to use. I pour a small amount into my hands and add a few drops of water. The powder then lathers into a silky creamy foam. I then apply on wet face and massage like a regular cleanser for about 30-40 seconds and rinse. It does work well to clean and very gently exfoliate leaving skin soft and smooth. It is non-irritating, doesn’t dry out the skin and did not cause any redness or tightness. Since it does not contain harsh abrasives, it is suitable for daily use but I tend to alternate cleansers on a regular basis so I use this about 3-4 times per week. Now, this doesn’t have the exfoliation a lot of people might be looking for because to me, it honestly feels like your average cleanser. I’m not a huge fan of very abrasive exfoliants because most of them feel excessively scratchy on my skin and I get easily red/irritated around my nose and lip area, so I prefer gentler options. But although I prefer a gentle exfoliant, I was expecting a bit more from this. While it works as a cleanser, it really doesn’t do much exfoliating for me personally. However, I really like it a lot because using overtime it does refines my pores, skin looks brighter and feels soft; so as a daily cleanser it works wonderful!
The Travel Sized (CAD $19.00/US $15.00) option is perfect if you want to try this out before committing to the full size which is on the very pricey (CAD $78.00/US $65.00) side although the full size is a fairly large size and a little goes a long way so it will last you a long time. If you have super sensitive skin and want a really light exfoliating product, this might be for you. You can find Tatcha products online at Tatcha.com and Sephora.
