I’m a huge fan of all things Tatcha. I love their skincare, which is excellent in quality, their packaging design and the performance of their products and when almost everything is in my favorite color, Purple, what’s not to love. Today, I will be sharing a review on their two primers, The Silk Canvas and The Liquid Silk Canvas.
The Silk Canvas Filter Finish Protective Primer is a velvety priming balm of pressed silk smooths and makes makeup last longer while keeping it out of skin, helping to minimize clogged pores and breakouts.
The Liquid Silk Canvas Featherweight Protective Primer is a weightless oil-free liquid silk primer that protects skin from pollutants and makeup, minimizing clogged pores while helping your look go on better and last longer.
Tatcha launched the The Silk Canvas Primer first and in March launched The Liquid Silk Canvas. I was never a big fan of makeup primers when they first became popular because I never found they make my makeup last longer; however, they do make my makeup look so much better and now, I can’t do my makeup without them.
The Silk Canvas is one of the most unique primers I’ve tried and owned. It comes in a balm form and has a velvety smooth feel. The color is a pale pink cream and you scoop a little with the provided spatula. I like the idea of the applicator because it will keep the product germ-free and from fingers. It has blurring properties and leaves the skin smooth and fresh looking. The cream disappears into the skin once blended. The primer smooths out the skin and does a really good job at making the skin a smooth canvas for makeup application. It is not too heavy or thick feeling and bonus is that it doesn’t clog my pores. I find that my foundation goes on nicely and my skin appears smooth after using this. It does give a noticeably matte look throughout the day.
The new Liquid Silk Canvas Primer is essentially all the good of the original Silk Canvas Primer. It is a weightless and oil-free liquid primer that contains actual silk extracts to help smooth and nourish the surface of the skin, in addition to a proprietary skin-renewing blend of green tea, algae, and rice. It has quickly become my favorite. The Liquid Silk Canvas feels more like a creamy, hydrating serum than shine-eliminating base and can be worn alone as well as under makeup. The oil-free formula disappeared into my skin as I applied it, leaving behind a translucent, satiny finish that looks great on its own. It is non drying, non greasy and gives you an even toned and flawless look. It glides on the skin like a dream and lasts a good number of hours! I have dry/combo skin but this primer doesn’t feel drying on the skin at all.
Not sure which one is right for you? It simply comes down to whether you like your primer in a solid balm or in a liquid form.
At $68 CAD / $52 USD each, the price is definitely a splurge. However, if you wear primer on the regular or found Tatcha’s formula just a little too heavy, then you might want to invest in a formula that your skin will love.
You can find both of these at Sephora or Tatcha if you’re interested in giving them a try.
