A year ago if you would have offered me a liquid lipstick, I’d have passed because I was just not a big fan. I mean, I might as well be applying a lip gloss to my lips because the application of liquid lipsticks can take a bit of practice as they can be messy and dry. Liquid lipsticks has really become famous and popular in the beauty world and lots of brands now have moisturizing formulas that make ‘matte’ a more comfortable wear. I feel like every beauty brand has one — There’s a liquid lipstick in every shade, for every budget, and the formulas aren’t dramatically different. Nonetheless, of all the liquid lipsticks in my little collection, these are the ones that’ve really been stand-outs for me – I wanted to only include the ones that I truly love and think the formula is a must try! Now keep in mind, there are still many formulas out there that I haven’t tried but these are the ones I reach for when I’m in the mood to wear liquid lipsticks…
This is the first liquid lipstick I tried and I instantly fell in love with the shade and the formula. The only thing more remarkable than the range of shades is just how long this matte liquid lipstick lasts. This is one of my favourite of all liquid lipsticks and is a true matte finish. It dries quickly on application to a very matte feel, yet remains comfortable to wear. It is beautifully pigmented and the formula glides on perfectly. It’s a dreamy everyday mauve-nude.
This full-coverage formula goes on with a smooth, matte finish and comes in a wide variety of shades. The texture is very pigmented – only one to two swipes will do as it is very buildable, but also feels lightweight. I find the formula to be slightly creamy upon application and initially sticky and dries almost instantly — and once it dries it doesn’t budge.
The formula is very light, and glides on effortlessly without being patchy. It dries quite quickly to a matte and pigmented finish yet with a comfortable feeling on the lips. Once it dries down, it didn’t feel at all heavy or cakey on the lips. It didn’t dry out my lips and I prefer wearing a balm underneath and it is still long-wearing and transfer proof. After eating, you need to reapply but I really don’t mind that personally.
I adore the frosted packaging of these liquid lipsticks. I have two shades but my absolute favourite is Dark Rosewood. This moussey matte lip cream is seriously comfortable on the lips and the consistency is a velvet matte cream which helps to keep the lips a little softer, smoother and more hydrated for a little longer. The innovative whipped formula that combines the rich pigment with a non-drying texture to ensure that skin on the lips looks supple and plump, never dry and cracked. The only let down is the staying power, the colour came off easily but it doesn’t dry out my lips as quickly as some.
The Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crème is a product I recently discovered after finally placing an order on Sephora. This warm medium pink shades is seriously so pretty. Of all the liquid lipsticks, this formula is the most hydrating and I absolutely adore it. It is long-wearing, and have full coverage. This also has more of a satin finish. It is very lightweight consistency that was super easy to apply and comfortable to wear.
And finishing off with this little gem from the drugstore. I haven’t tried many liquid lipsticks from the drugstore but this is by far my favourite formula so far. Soft Spoken doesn’t set completely like a typical liquid lipstick — it has a bit of a satin sheen to it and is slightly tacky so it isn’t uncomfortable on the lips. If you’re on a budget, or want a finish that’s somewhere between matte and gloss, this is the one for you!
After taking these photographs, I realized I didn’t include the YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stain that I recently discovered. I only have a mini deluxe size in my drawer, in the shade 401 Rouge Vinyle and didn’t pull it out until recently. The product applies with a soft and smooth feeling with a bit of shine to the satin cream finish. It never looks dry nor does it feel dry and it wears very comfortable and beautiful on the lips. It’s an amazing lightweight formula and I plan to pick up a full size in 404 Nude Pulse.
