If you’ve been reading my blog for a bit, then you know I love dewy, glowing and youthful skin. So today’s blog post is on the new trend…STROBING! Strobing is the latest alternative to contouring. It’s a much easier way to sculpt and define your face.
So what is Strobing: It is more natural, fresh, and youthful looking than contouring. Basically, it is highlighting and illuminating the skin without the complimentary shadows. Strobing is an application technique to use if you want to get a dewy, lit from within glow that highlights your features. Strobing is best done with liquid or creams to get that full-on glow effect and it gives a more natural appearance to the skin. I think strobing is a beautiful way to show off your skin without the structured hard look of contour. It is all about accentuating the high points of the face to create a glowing dimension.
1. Prep your skin with a hydrating moisturizer. Strobing is all about getting the perfect glow, so you’ll need to replenish dull, dry skin with a good moisturizer first.
2. Liquid or Cream highlighters are best with this trend. Their creamy texture allows the look to be more natural and fresh. Use products such as MAC Strobe Cream, Benefit Girl Meets Pearl and Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight. These liquid and/or cream products will give you that ethereal glow.
3. You can also mix the liquid highlighter in with your favorite foundation, I like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, for that perfect glow. The light reflecting pigments in the highlighter will peek through the pigments in your foundation creating a fresh, dewy look.
4. Only use the highlighter in spots that catches the light on places such as the high points of your cheeks, along your temples, down the bridge of your nose, brow bones, inner tear ducts and cupids bow. You can also take the product along the center of your forehead, and chin and above the arch of your brow. This will enhance your natural features.
5. Now sweep the highlighting powder such as The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer across any areas that you applied your liquid highlighter. If you have oily skin, then it’s best to use a finely milled powder over liquid or cream to avoid the greasy look.
6. Finally, lock everything in place with a dewy setting spray such as MAC Fix Plus.
I have also included a drugstore alternative to strobing. Below you will find the products that will give you a beautiful glow.
