H&M Beauty Review

H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-001H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-004We have all at one point or another shopped at H&M for their cute affordable clothing or accessories. Recently H&M rebranded and launched their beauty range, and brought us some new products. Forget splashing out on expensive cosmetics, there’s something for everyone in H&M’s new beauty collection as the new collection includes a whopping 700 products. Color payoff is in a wide variety of shades for all skin tones and H&M have an incredible colour selection.

I love the elegant packaging in a monochrome palette with flashes of gold gives the collection an expensive look. The prices are very reasonable, and are comparable to drugstore makeup prices. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve spent a fair amount of time testing out the products that were generously sent to me and wanted to share my thoughts with you. The collection is now available in stores and online at hm.com.H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-006Eye Colour Palette ‘Smoky Nudes’ (CAD $12.99)
First, the packaging is sleek and gorgeous and actually looks high-end with a large mirror on the inside. The palette includes 9 smoky nude shades with 3 mattes and the rest were either shimmer or glittery shadows. This palette is all about the nudes and it’s a perfect mix between matte and shimmer and the colours match well together. These colours are very beautiful and versatile for a smokey eye and to brighten up your eyes, however the overall pigmentation was not there as I found the quality was lacking making the shadows quite sheer. The texture feels very smooth to the touch and even while swatching them; however, they also felt thin and powdery, and not at all like I was expecting. These were sheer, dusty, and uneven applied to the skin. Maybe if you use a tacky, colored or white-hued base, then you will likely get a better color payoff. A primer is an absolute must for this palette. The eyeshadows are just so powdery with little binder that they don’t adhere well to bare skin, and sheer away as soon as you make any attempt to blend. As they end up showing up rather sheer and muted, the darker shades get lost in each other. The entire look faded after five-six hours of wear. There is a tutorial sheet enclosed which will be useful for beginners in helping to pair colours together or if you are just starting out with makeup. If you want just a simple eye look, then this will work for you.H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-003True Matte Finishing Powder ‘Warm Beige’ (CAD $12.99)
I’ve come to realized that I don’t like too many things that has the word ‘matte’, especially when it comes to complexion face powders. I strive for radiant, glowing dewy skin because of my combination/dry skin that tends to flake and peel a bit in the colder months, although I still get oily in the t-zone…I know, it’s the worst. However, I must admit that this powder is one of the stand- outs. It is silky and thin with a smooth texture with lightweight coverage that does mattify the skin without making it appear dry or powdery. It goes on the skin more like a translucent powder (could be because of the color I have) and keeps the oil at bay as I only lightly dust in my T-zone. I also noticed it visibly keeps my makeup in place longer. I really like this one.H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-007Pure Radiance Powder Blusher ‘Apricot’ (CAD $12.99)
This is a peachy apricot shade with warm undertones with a mostly matte finish and gives a natural glow. It has a hexagonal packaging that is sleek. Now I am only reviewing one out of the many colors they have in this collection, so I can’t speak for quality consistence on all and I’ve also heard that the finishes differ a bit from blush to blush. The texture on this blush was firm and a little stiff, which resulted in sheerer color payoff; however, it blends beautifully onto the skin. Although on the sheer side and not overly pigmented, it offers buildable coverage which I like. I did not notice any powder kick-up when I swirled my brush into it. This shade wore well for about six hours before fading on me.H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-008Cream Lip Colour ‘Candy Apple’ (CAD $12.99)
Now I’m not a red lipstick wearer but I have been trying to get out of my comfort zone and wear brighter colors. I wore this out a few times and the colour is beautiful. I would described it has a bright orange red lipstick with a glossy shine. The lipsticks are also beautifully packaged with their eye-catching gold tubes, and clean white lids. The lipstick is rich and creamy with medium coverage. Although it glides on smoothly without tugging, I find that it was a little patchy in some areas and I had to go over some areas to make it more opaque. It was neither drying nor hydrating on me. It sits comfortably on the lips and did not emphasize fine lines. They don’t stay long on the lips as well as I’d hoped for. On me, the formula lasted for about 5 hours after eating and/or drinking. I also found it was prone to smudging and transferring.H&M Beauty review-H&M-makeup-collection-009Nail Polish ‘December Dawn’ (CAD $6.99)
This is a lovely nail polish that is a pearly white and sparkly with very light fine glitter that gives off a beautiful shine. It is very pretty and the quality is quite decent as it doesn’t chip as much as some other nail polishes that I have. I’m a big fan of the formula and I did not have any issue with the formula bubbling. It can last about 4-5 days with a decent base/top coat. The consistency is slightly thin but doesn’t pool along the sides of the nail easily and had good coverage after two coats, and the color applied smoothly and evenly. I also like the wide brush as it makes application very easy!

Overall, I am super impressed with the look and quality of the products and would definitely recommend checking them out next time you’re in H&M. I will definitely check out some of their other beauty products and I want more of their blushes, lipsticks and nail polishes.

Will you be trying out the H&M beauty line?
