Ooh the trials and errors of finding the perfect foundation. I personally am a foundation junkie and I love trying the newest foundation on the market — why? Because I’m always looking for one that’s better than the last. I’m currently testing a sample of the new YSL All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation. Today I’m rounding up some foundations I’ve tested and even though my skin is more on the dry/combination side (once upon a time I had the oiliest skin but thanks to 2 kids, age and hormones, that has since changed), the foundations below I’ve tested by formula and coverage on my yellow/olive skin tone. Everyone likes difference texture when it comes to their foundation so think about what texture and finish you prefer. Not all foundations are alike and depending on your skin type, there are certain ones that work better than others. Also remember, to achieve a flawless, long-lasting finish, invest in a good foundation primer to wear underneath.
So how to choose? Well, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite ones at the moment for common skin types.
For Oily Skin: Maybelline Matte + Poreless Foundation
If your complexion is prone to shine, opt for a matte foundation and avoid dewy formulas. You’ll want to avoid any “luminous” foundations since these will make you look even shinier! Look for foundations that are oil-free, long lasting, and mattifying. This one is a mattifying liquid that works to treat oily skin. Plus it’s long wearing so it won’t be patchy or disappear throughout the day. Another one that’s great for oily skin is the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation.
For a Luminous Glow (Combination Skin): Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
This is my favorite foundation (well it’s a tie with the Dior Forever Perfect Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 35) because it never fails me and when I have an important event and I’m not sure what foundation to wear, I always reach for this one. It creates skin that’s healthy looking and glowing and blurs out imperfections.
For Dry Skin: Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation
If you want that youthful dewy finish, then this Becca foundation is ideal. I have dry/combination skin where I am prone to getting dry patches around my nose and mouth so I’m always looking for foundations that will work well with my skin type. This one goes on slightly sheer but gives you enough coverage to cover any imperfections without clinging to any dry patches. This moisturizing formula of Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation delivers hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that can hold up to 100 times its weight in water, to hydrate skin and restore your glow.
For a Natural Glow: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation
This one is a great option for makeup minimalist who wants a quick application that last all day. It’s a mix of mineral pigment and soft focus powder and despite the high coverage, it still looks like skin and gives a glow. The colour range isn’t great so not everyone will be able to find a match.
Best All-In-One: Stick formulas can be intimidating, but Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick actually provides double the pigment of most foundation formulas, which means you need less to cover more. This foundation also doubles as a concealer. Coverage is medium to full depending how much you layer. It does a good job at smoothing out dark spots or under eye circles.
For Best Shade Range: Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation
This has one of the best shade range/match I’ve seen and their liquid version has even more options for every skin tone. It’s my favorite stick foundation to date so I had to include it in this round-up and because this always make me feel like I have “really good skin” and it’s one of the only foundation I’ve found that matches my skin perfectly.
What is your favorite foundation?
