6 Summer Beauty Trends To Have On Your Radar

Summer means it’s time to have fun in the sun. There’s so much to love about summer. Longer days, outdoor dining when it’s actually, like, warm, and most importantly, new beauty trends. Every summer, I like to challenge myself to experiment with different shades, try a new technique, and play around with new trends. For beauty enthusiasts, it’s also a fun time to test new makeup. The season’s sunny days will motivate you to step out of your box and dabble in seasonally-appropriate shades. So, with the summer of 2023 season full of surprises – we thought we’d take a look at the new season biggest summer 2023 beauty trends.

Barbiecore

Ahead of Margot Robbie‘s character premiere in the Barbie movie, Barbiecore is the new design trend to swoon over in 2023. It’s all in the name – Barbiecore is the trend that’s embracing the iconic doll’s aesthetic and it’s your ticket to the Barbie world. This bright, vibrant trend is defined by a very particular tone of pink – that nostalgic magenta – but it also embraces all hues of pink.

Cloud Skin

“Soft focus skin with natural radiance is definitely having a moment,” says makeup artist and beauty brand founder Danessa Myricks about summer makeup trends. Cloud skin is the soft-focus makeup trend that’s sweeping social media. It stands in contrast to the dewy glazed doughnut look with its more matte finish. The trend fits in with other recent favorites in that it presents a softer complexion rather than full coverage. “Cloud skin is all about a light veil of loose powder, used as a way to lightly set makeup and blur texture,” explains Kevyn Aucoin director of artistry.

Bold Blush Cheeks

One of my favorite trends is the overly blushed cheeks. Give it a try by applying the blush wherever you need a splash of color: above the temples, across the nose bridge, and of course, on the apples of the cheek. Now that’s one way to pack on the blush.

Glazed/Glossy Lips

Shine is in this summer, and a high-shine lip gloss can instantly elevate your look. With over 1.6 billion views on TikTok, everyone is looking to find out what #lipoil will help them attain that perfectly glossy wash of color on their lips for their golden hour or early morning selfies. Of course Dior Beauty‘s Lip Oil will always reign supreme (it’s my favorite) but don’t sleep on renditions from Merit and Gisou either — we’ve got options. Hydrated and plump lips are a must, so don’t forget to exfoliate and moisturize before applying that gloss.

Press On Nails

Trips to the nail salon are costly and time-consuming. But if you don’t have steady hands, painting your nails at home can be challenging. The solution? Press-on nails. Unlike press-on nails of the past, today’s offerings feature cool designs and modern shapes and are easy to apply. “Having the ability to take them off and switch them every day for your outfit is a great way to stay on-trend,” says celebrity stylist Chloe Delgadillo, who specializes in hand styling.

Whether you’re looking to glam up your fingers for a special occasion, don’t have time to head to the salon, or just aren’t great at painting your own nails, press-ons are for you.

Summer Grunge

The ’90s are calling and we’re answering. Think smudged, sooty-black eyeliner and eyeshadow, alongside chocolate- and mid-tone brown lip liners under layers of sheer lip glosses. “With the return of smudged, lived-in eyes, messy makeup will be making a strong re-emergence. Think Kate Moss or a hint of Courtney Love in the ‘90s,” says Sir John, Beyonce’s makeup artist, who recommends smudging liner with the help of a brush for a more lived-in look. Imperfection is the secret and precision is irrelevant.
