MAC Whirl Lipstick
I haven’t been in a MAC Store in forever, seriously, so last weekend while I was at the mall with my two little ones, I thought what the heck, I’ll go in and have a lipstick swatchfest (my little ones loved it since they’re always playing with my lipsticks). A sweet SA helped me while I figured out what shades I like. I’m pretty picky when it comes to lipsticks because I have pigmented lips. Anyway, after trying on Twig (a bit too pinky for me) and a few others, the SA recommended Whirl and tells me how popular it is because of Kylie Jenner. Then I remember some crazy hype surrounding a lipstick (did not know it was this one) and Kylie Jenner. (BTW, my 7 year daughter’s name is Kylie…Haha).
Any who, I told the SA I didn’t think I would like the color after seeing it in the tube but she insisted I tried it on and see how it looks. Oh boy, am I glad I did because surprisingly, I immediately felt in love with the shade and was surprised how well it flatters my complexion. It also reminded me of Kat Von D Lolita which I love. So here I am today with a little review of this new find.
MAC Whirl Lipstick is described as a “dirty rose” with a matte finish. But I would say it is more of a muted rosy brown shade with warm undertones. It is quite opaque with a very slight creamy texture and glides on evenly and smoothly on the lips without tugging or pulling. The color wore well for about 5 hours which is fine for me but was a little drying. I would definitely recommend some lip balm and/or lip scrub prior to application. It’s a beautiful everyday nude lip color that would look great against many skintone and has quickly become a favorite and my go to shade for daytime wear. Even though it has a matte finish, it is slightly creamy as I mentioned and easy to apply. It didn’t transfer to my teeth nor did it stain my lips.
I heard there’s a lip pencil to this but I’m not sure how similar they are to each other in terms of color because I don’t own the pencil. I mentioned that Kat Von D Lolita was similar (cooler) so here is a comparison swatch.
Let me know if you would pick this shade up.
