Maybelline Dream Velvet Blender

Maybelline Dream Blender Foundation Blending Sponge-maybelline-Dream-Velvet-Blender-sponge-001Maybelline Dream Blender Foundation Blending Sponge is a makeup blending sponge that delivers even foundation coverage and a smooth finish. It was designed to be used with the brand new Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation (review here).

This makeup blending sponge is ideal for gliding over large areas and targeting hard-to-reach curves. It is a latex-free and re-usable beauty blending sponge that has a built-in handle for effortless and mess-free application. It is basically a cute little Dream Velvet applicator that looks similar to a Beautyblender, except cut in half and comes with a handle.

My opinion on this – The Maybelline Dream Velvet Blender is dense and firm and doesn’t have a lot of bounce to it so it doesn’t soak up all your foundation. However, it is way too dense and doesn’t have the nice bouncy feeling like the beauty blender. The handle for the Dream Blender was nice to have to avoid putting your fingers all over the sponge applicator and it was very easy to use; however, the sponge itself did not allow easy blending of the foundation, too time consuming and I found that it took a lot of swipes and circular motions to get the foundation to spread evenly. I prefer my brush and beautyblender as my method of foundation application. While I do not like using it to apply my foundation, it works well damp for under-the-eye concealer for an airbrushed finish because it really gets in there and it’s pointy enough to go on the inner corner that other tools can’t reach. I found press and rolling the blender gave me the best results.

On the Maybelline website, it provided these instructions for best results:
Step 1. Dab a small amount of foundation onto blender. Alternately, place foundation on the back of the hand and apply to the blender for added precision.
Step 2. Use sides to blend in a circular motion on cheeks and in an outward direction on the forehead, nose and chin.
Step 3. Use the tip for greater precision around corners and curves, such as the nose, under eyes and over eyebrows.
Pro tip: For lighter foundation coverage, wet and towel dry the blender before use.
