NYX COSMETICS COSMIC METALS COLLECTION

NYX launched a new eyeshadow palette inspired by their Cosmic Metals Lip Creams! The Cosmic Metals Shadow Palette contains 6 neutral shades with a metallic finish.

Description from NYX website: “Create a spectrum of out-of-this-world eye looks with the Cosmic Metals Shadow Palette—a new eyeshadow set inspired by our beloved COSMIC METALS LIP CREAM. Featuring six versatile and edgy neutrals in tones of gold, plum and mauve, this gorgeous set loads your lids with rich, metallic color and incredible color payoff.”

This is a warmer palette of neutrals but still very wearable. Pigment is sheer to medium and they do show up well on the eyes even without a primer but you get a better color payoff and you won’t get any creasing with a primer. NYX did not label these eye shadows but starting from top left to bottom, we have some champagne rose, bronze, mauve-taupe, pink, plum and a gold. The champagne rose and the gold has a slightly chunkier texture than the others. They were also the softest along with the pink shade. I love the color scheme of the palette and I think the shades work very well together. They don’t have the same bendability or that buttery texture that some high-end shadows do but they still do blend nicely and look beautiful on the lids. I would say these have more of a shimmery sheen. To get a true metallic finish with these shadows, I apply them with a wet brush (sprayed with MAC Fix+). They performed very well on the eyes and I’m really impressed by the quality and performance. They lasted for about 8 hours without any creasing when I use a primer. There are some kick-up but nothing substantial.

Here is a quick eye look in indoor lighting, no flash – using the champagne rose all over lid, mauve-taupe in crease and plum on outer-corner. Forgive the under-eye creasing and the makeup melting off my face but I didn’t have time to take the photo after initial application of makeup so this photo was taken well over 8 hours of wearing this makeup with no touch-up whatsoever.

This is not a love but I do like this eyeshadow palette and think it’s a great drugstore one to wear for any occasion. Although I do like shimmery shadows I don’t wear a lot of metallic makeup but these are easy to wear and layer on top of other powder shades. For the price point of CAD $10.00, I think this palette is a great buy and a generous palette.

In addition, NYX also launched 5 new shades of their Cosmic Metals Lip Cream that are more nude-based shades—from champagne gold and pink to a gorgeous deep brown laced with blue shimmer. I had previously reviewed 11 Cosmic Metals Lip Creams here.

I have 3 of the 5 new shades:

  • Celestial – Metallic gold
  • Retro Harmony – Metallic nude with gold shimmer
  • Elite – Metallic deep brown with blue pearl

Top to Bottom: Celestial, Retro Harmony & Elite (in indoor light and no flash – all very true to color)

Like I mentioned in my previous review, these are pigmented metallic lip creams with a metallic finish that feels and look more like a sticky gloss with a high shine finish. They glide on easily and smoothly without any tugging and are very comfortable on the lips and didn’t require much layering to get an opaque color. These are great as lip toppers.

You can find the Cosmic Metals Lip Creams online at NYX and at your local drugstore and these retail for CAD $10 / US $7.50.

Have you tried any of these new launches yet? What did you think?
