Summer is in full swing and we’ve been getting some hot weather here in Toronto with lots of humidity. That being said, there’s that dreaded feeling of putting anything heavy on your face so you want to swap out heavy complexion perfecters for lightweight alternatives. So I like to keep things simple with a fresh flawless faced, glossy lips and that summer glow so here are some of my favourite makeup must-haves for the summer months.
For a light base, I’ve been loving the Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector as it leaves my skin looking smooth and silky with a soft-focus effect. Your makeup feels lightweight and skin is beautiful and natural looking with an amazing subtle glow. I also love that it comes with an SPF of 20 making it ideal for wearing all year round but especially during the summer months. I also alternate with the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue which has a light coverage and a dewy finish and gives skin a flawless look without looking like you have any makeup on.
To brighten up the cheeks, I will be grabbing these babies, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat and Clinique Pansy Pop. In the summer, a more affordable blush that I always wear is the Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso. These are all glowy blushes that I love wearing during the summer months as they give a beautiful glow to the cheeks.
Bronze them’ face and make those cheeks glow, will most certainly be a trend this season! If you’ve been reading my blog for a little bit, then you know I love to glow so highlighters are my jam and I have been enjoying cream highlighters a lot lately. Liquid and cream highlighters look more natural on the skin and they give that “lit from within” glow. Two highlighters that I’ve been loving are the Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer (great to just dab on your cheeks, mixed with primer, mixed with moisturizer, mixed with tinted moisturizer, and also great to be used on its own) and the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator in Spotlight (gives a very natural glow that adds a luminous sheen to your cheekbones). Though not a cream highlighter, the Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Bronze Glow gives the most perfect glow/shimmer.
As much as I’m loving cream and liquid highlighters, I’ve yet to branch out into cream bronzers; but for now, an all-time favorite that I love is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light which provides a beautiful warm, tan glow. It is a finely milled powder that is very subtle and goes on very smoothly and blends well.
I tend to keep my eye look fairly simple in the summer time although there are quite a few eye palettes I want to start using a heck of a lot more. A palette I have been using a lot is the Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 5 as the colours are just perfect for summer and is filled with the perfect amount of warm bronzy/taupey and brown shades. For an all-over-the-lid colour, totally in-love with L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Amber Rush, which is from the drugstore and so beautiful and affordable.
On my lips, MAC’s Sunny Seoul lipstick is a creamy warm light/medium pink with shimmer that I love to wear daily in the summer months and of course when I just want to throw on glosses, my all-time favorites are the Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer Lipglosses and MAC Lipglass Pink Lemonade.
Tip for Oily Girls: THE MATTIFIER – NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder Pressed
Summer is hot and sticky. You don’t want to wear a ton of makeup, but you don’t want to be shiny and sweaty either. A light translucent powder is key to tame shine and stay polished. This is an excellent one that doesn’t load you up with pigment.
Do you need all of these products to achieve that gorgeous summer’s glow; heck no, but I’m excessive like that…haha 😉
