Primers have been around for a while now and they have become an important step in how women of all ages apply their makeup. Primers can help by reducing the look of large pores, act as fillers on pores and fine lines, evens-out skin tone/texture and helps foundation to glide on smoother for a more flawless look. It also prevents an oily face by keeping the shine at bay, reducing redness, and acne, and providing a more long lasting makeup. No need to splurged, here are some affordable drugstore primers that work just as well as other luxury brands. From brightening to blurring, I love these primers!
1 / L’Oréal Youth Code Texture Perfector Pore Vanisher (US $19.99, CAD $29.99)
I absolutely love this primer. I like the way my makeup applies when I wear this as it helps to prevent shine but is not overly mattifying so it doesn’t dry my skin out, yet pores and fine lines are blurred. What I also love about this is that it has sort of a gel cream texture and it absorbs very well into the skin. It leaves skin soft with a velvety feel and melts right into the skin and prep your face for makeup application. The only thing I don’t like is the steep price point.
2 / L’Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer (US $12.99, CAD $13.96)
For dull skin days, this gives your skin a very radiant and dewy finish. If you want your face to look gorgeous with a luminous finish and without looking greasy, then this is ideal! This can be worn under or mixed with your foundation for a soft light illusion. It also prolongs make-up wear to some extent. I like using this when I am using a matte foundation like the Maybelline Matte+Poreless because it just adds the right amount of radiance and glow to my skin, without settling into pores. I would say this is great for normal to dry skin and those who don’t require oil control. This is also great as a liquid highlighter.
3 / Maybelline Master Prime Primer – Blur + Illuminate (US $7.94, CAD $12.96)
This primer contains a subtle iridescence that creates an illuminated look, and when applied to the skin, it gives the skin a subtle natural and beautiful glow. I love that it hydration and illuminates the skin leaving skin glowing without looking oily or shiny or an overly silicone feel. I have a full review here, but it is one of those primers that feels light and provides a flawless look and freshens up your face.
4 / L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur – Original (US $19.99, CAD $24.96)
I don’t believe this claims to be a primer and according to L’Oreal, this is an instant skin smoother that is meant to blur the look of wrinkles, lines and pores. This particular one has no sunscreen and there is also an oil-free version to this one. This is also the travel size version I found at my local Walmart. I personally use this as a primer under my foundation or just alone on those no makeup days when I still want my skin to look smooth and poreless. This has a nice velvet like finish that is the perfect canvas for foundation and leave skin looking amazing. It felt smooth and silky once it was on my skin and blurs skin imperfections such as fine lines and pores without leaving the skin tight and uncomfortable. This is perfect for normal and combination skin. I also think oily skins should be able to use this for a bit of shine control.
