When Niki Garret reached out and asked if I would be interested in receiving their contour duo and contour and highlighter pro brush set, I was ecstatic. I don’t own many contouring products because I like keeping things simple and natural; and contouring can sometimes be too harsh and overwhelming (at least for me) for everyday although recently I’ve been killing my MUFE Pro Sculpting Palette (review here) because of how natural it looks. I prefer a soft tan powder or bronzer applied down the side of my face in a ‘3’ shape to create soft dimension. If you’re not a contour pro like myself and want something that will define and highlight, the Niki Garret duos are the solution to give a goof-proof contour that looks natural and flawless.
If you’ve never heard of Niki Garret Cosmetics before, it is a Canadian based and owned company that was launched in 2015, selling through retailers and recently they officially launched their website (www.nikigarretcosmetics.com) focusing on contour products which are Paraben and Cruelty Free.
Niki Garret Contour Duo* kit comes in two shades: Medium for Medium, Tan, Caramel, Olive Skin tone and Dark for Dark Medium to Deep Skin tone. I got the Medium one for my medium/olive skin tone. The kit has one highlighting shade and a darker one for contouring. The contour color is matte and has an ashy brown color which is actually great for contouring because it looks more natural and the highlighter is more of a peachy gold that gives a nice natural luminous glow. I’ve put this to the test for a couple weeks now and can say that I am extremely impressed. The contouring duo are lightweight, finely milled powders with a soft texture that melts into the skin. It gives a natural contour with medium buildable coverage. The contour shade blends easily into the skin without looking cakey, powdery, muddy or fake. It is very pigmented and with one swipe, you get a really good color payoff. I was actually very surprised how pigmented it was. There is enough color for the shade to be visible on the face but are soft enough that you won’t be left with any harsh edges. The highlighter can be applied to the cupids bow, temples and cheekbones; and doesn’t emphasize pores. You receive 14g of product and the price point is very good for the quality that you get. To be honest, I didn’t expect to like this very much nor did I expect such good quality but this stuff is really amazing! The compact is sleek and small and I love how thin it is because it’s not bulky; so it is great for travelling.

- Pro Contour Brush F10 features a flat head contour brush specifically designed to create a precise sculpted look.
- Pro Multipurpose Contour Brush F15 features a mini fan shaped brush that can be used to contour, highlight and apply foundation for a flawless look.

These are sturdy basic black brushes. The bristles are very soft but also not too dense. I like using the F10 brush to outline the contour and then the F15 or F20 to blend out the contour shade. Then I go in with the F20 brush to apply the highlighter; which can also be used to apply your blush. These brushes does a fantastic job and my favorites are the F10 and F20.
